It's that time. I'm finished with today's work, flailing away at what might become a novel, or making a weekly commit of Groovy or Javascript poetry to my now one-day-a-week employer's repository, or pausing for a while in my reading, or weed whacking, or...

What's next?

Today's particular possibilities now, at mid afternoon, include a trip to Rouse's Market to acquire the raw materials for an Italian pasta dinner, et al, or heading for Coquette's for the 4:30 to 6 p.m. happy hour, featuring one of the best Sazeracs in the city.
Yes, that's the way to go.

Coquette's Bar

(Coquette's Bar)

Today, Wednesday, at 5 p.m. the bar is empty. Melinda asks the bartender, "Are you Vincent?"

He's surprised she knows his name, pretends he didn't know he's listed on the menu as "Bar Manager", laughs it off.
"It's just the two of us," he says.

By 5:30 p.m. the bar and half the tables are full.

Sazerac Cocktail

The Sazerac is perfect: sweet, fragrant with Absinthe, and strong.

Wine Bottles

Melinda likes the wines. Good California wine. The food is what bar food should be. Fried chicken, with a watermelon-pepper relish.

It was a great day to be in New Orleans.
